The Lender Archetype Index

How to Read The Draft

The Lender Draft doesn’t just track wins and losses. We analyze how franchises compete. Our proprietary metrics—Pace and Impact—reveal a lender’s true strategy. This is your guide to understanding our “Tale of the Tape” and finding the right lender for your deal.

The Core Metrics

Pace Rating (The “Reps” Metric)
  • What it is: A measure of pure activity.
  • How it’s built: Total Deals Logged / Number of Weeks Elapsed
  • What it answers: “How many deals is this franchise actually logging per week?”
  • User Insight: Use this to find the most active, “on-the-street” lenders who are built for volume.

Impact Rating (The “Slugging %” Metric)

  • What it is: A measure of deal size and efficiency.
  • How it’s built: Total Points / Total Deals Logged
  • What it answers: “When this franchise closes a deal, how big is it?”
  • User Insight: Use this to find the “Blockbuster Hunters” and Heavyweights who specialize in massive, complex deals.

The Lender Archetype Matrix

A lender’s Archetype is their strategic identity. It is determined by comparing their Pace and Impact Ratings against the current League Average.

1. The Workhorse (High Pace / Low Impact)
  • Scouting Report: These lenders are the “volume players” of the league. They are constantly closing deals, focusing on the $5M – $50M range. Their win-loss record might be average, but their Pace Rating is elite.
  • User Insight: This is the first lender a broker or borrower with a standard, bread-and-butter deal should call. They are active, hungry, and their business model is built on repetition.
2. The Heavyweight (Low Pace / High Impact)
  • Scouting Report: These are the “blockbuster hunters.” They are highly selective and patient. They may only log one or two deals in a six-week period, but those deals will be massive $250M+. They have a low Pace Rating but an exceptional Impact Rating.
  • User Insight: Do not bring a $15M deal to a Heavyweight. You are wasting your time. This lender is structured for complex, nine-figure-plus “Landmark” deals.
3. The Juggernaut (High Pace / High Impact)
  • Scouting Report: This is the rarest and most dangerous Archetype. Juggernauts do it all. They close a high volume of deals and they close massive, high-impact deals. They are market-dominant, competing on all fronts.
  • User Insight: This lender has maximum market penetration and a massive balance sheet. They are a true “one-stop shop” and are likely the most formidable competitors in their division.
4. The Specialist (Low Pace / Low Impact)
  • Scouting Report: This lender is below average in both activity and deal size. This does not mean they are a “bad” lender. It means their focus is extremely narrow. They may only serve one specific sub-sector or have a very rigid credit box.
  • User Insight: This lender is inactive unless you have their specific, niche deal. They are not a general-purpose lender. They are a scalpel, not a hammer.
